After only “living” in the city for about 9 hours…I already know I want to be here full time. Bring on those Chicago school applications puhlease!

I need to not read the comments in response to the strike authorization vote. They leave me more frustrated than ever.

According to them I’m overpaid, unsuccessful, and sit around and complain all day.

I was interested in the comments left on an article in the Tribune.

  1. Fire all of them.  There are many good teachers around the country who have been laid off that would love a job in Chicago.  Then they will tell us that they only have the education of our children at heart.  Disgusting, just downright disgusting.
  2. why is this even news. Who cares if the teachers go on strike most of the students can barely read or write anyways.
  3. These people should be looking around.  The people who pay their salaries are hurting these days.  Property values are down.  Jobs are scarce.  Even paychecks are being cut.  This is not a time for unions to go looking for huge increases.

Personally, I think it is time for Illinois to become a Right To Work state.  The time for unions having a lock on all the jobs is over.  Gov. Walker, in Wisconsin, is doing the right thing.  He is making some tough choices and turning the financial situation in WI around.

It is time to do the same thing in Illinois.

  4. What an incredibly dumb idea. You would think school teachers would be smarter than this, but recent events in Wisconsin show that most are dim bulbs.  If they strike, fire them and bring in new people that will get results.

Is this what people think?  It’s not about being greedy. It’s about standing up for yourself. It’s about being treated like a professional, a human being and not being bullied by a mayor with a political agenda.  Yeah, 30% sounds like a lot, but when the numbers are added up, that’s where we stand.  Meet us somewhere in the middle, but don’t belittle us with 2% for one year and then a pay freeze pending a new “system” and compensation is only part of it.

We authorized a strike.  That doesn’t mean we will do it, but it does mean we are ready to.

So damn true

What I’ve Learned

So over the past year, in the year since I graduated college and have been in the “real world” ive learned a few things…

1. Don’t sweat the small stuff- it only takes time away from your happiness, and seems really stupid when you look back on it. There are much bigger things that require attention for you to waste time on the little things. When you look back, you;; remember the big defining moments, and the happy things…not the little things you spent too much time stressing over

2. No matter what, you can rely on your family- now i know not everyone is as lucky as i am. I have great parents and a brother who ive never fought with. But in the end- friends will come and go, and sometimes care more about themselves to worry about you (again not all of them but family is forever. Learn to love them if you dont already. My mom took the afternoon off, drove home and sat with me today because i was nervous for the afternoon. She took the extra effort to make my day a little easier just knowing she was there. And my dad? Well he was the first person to call me BEFORE to wish me luck ad right after to hear all about it.

3. Don’t ever settle for any less than you deserve- girls lets be real for a minute- we’ve all been mistreated. By a boy, by a friend by someone we care a lot about. Hell I put up with an ex for a lot longer than ill EVER admit to. And the day I realized I was to good for his shit? Yup the same day I met the love of my life (okay not met, re-met). Karma’s a bitch, good people deserve to be treated right. Don’t ever let anyone take advantage of you or as my mom would say “take your happy away”.

4. Everything happens for a reason- Honestly I believe in this. Things happen so other things can happen. Maybe you didnt get your dream job after graduation, but maybe the steps you take in the process are going to lead you to exactly where you belong. Maybe me walking out of a bar with the notion that I was “better than all the crap he put me through” and walking into the one next door happened just so i could run into my now bf. MAYBE things will all work themselves out in the end and the struggles we endure will only make getting there so much more rewarding.

Just a few thoughts to ponder ya’ll.

Hope everyone is having a lovely friday night :) I got to spend mine with my boy, who’s one sleepy kid these days with long hours at work and then playing baseball in the evenings. Oh well, ill take a movie and cuddling anyday

i have come to the conclusion that i could survive on hummus and veggies alone. If I had to give up all other food you wouldnt see me complaining…

i think im on my second container in the last few days…someone tell me to stop.
